FLOW – Autonomous Carsharing (Bachelor Thesis)

Flow is a holistic, user-centered, full-electric autonomous carsharing concept for 2030. It was developed to meet the requirements of future on-demand mobility in urban areas. Due to constantly growing cites and rising numbers in population, we need new intelligent and sustainable mobility alternatives, especially in urban environments. Air-, noise- and fine-dust-pollution are massive problem for us and our environment.

Flow combines aspects of carsharing, autonomous driving and intelligent traffic infrastructures. As a result, Flow vehicles are able to learn where and at what specific time a high demand in transportation appears. Flow vehicles are able to distribute themselves to those areas to create the most efficient, city-wide transportation network with the smallest possible fleet of Flow vehicles.

To book a Flow vehicle we created a simple and user-friendly smartphone application. The user-centered interface makes it easy to use whether you are young, old, technophilic or a first-time user.

The self-monitoring system recognizes high-demand areas and relocates the fleet accordingly to ensure ubiquitous availability. During low-demand hours, the Flow vehicles are designed to make use of cluster-parking in public multi-storey parking-lots where the fleet quickly recharges using inductive charging solutions.
